Shalsheles Bais Yaakov School for Girls
PRESCHOOL
Our Hebrew Department focuses on teaching the girls all about Judaism. They cover Holidays, the weekly Torah Portion, prayer, and the Hebrew alphabet.
Our English Department divides the class into two groups based on age and an initial evaluation.
The Blue Group: This group is for girls who are already five years old, or will be early on in the year. They learn to read, as well as covering units such as numbers, the five senses, Healthy Habits and more.
The Red Group: This group is for girls who are three or four years old. They cover many of the same units as the Blue Group, as well as learning to identify the letters of the alphabet.
Last week in the Hebrew Department:
Jewish Holidays: Last week we learned about and celebrated Tu B'shvat, the birthday of the trees.
The Weekly Torah Portion: We learned how God asked all the other nations if they want the Torah, and they all said no because they didn't like what the Torah said, but the Jewish people said "Na'ase, venishma" (We will do and we will listen) and did not ask what the Torah says. Because of this they got two golden crowns. We learned about how all the mountains were fighting about which one deserves to have the Torah given on it, and only Har Sinai (Mt. Sinai) didn't brag, and we got the Torah on him. From this we learn to be humble. We made a crowns for na'aseh v'nishma, and a small Har Sinai.
Prayer: We learned aout the blessing of "Mezonos", and the foods which we say it on. (Cookies, cakes, crackers) We played games and made a "mezonos man".
The Hebrew alphabet: We began learning the letter "lamed" (final chaf). We played games and did practice sheets to review both the new and old letters.
This week in the English Department:
Monday: We had no school on Monday. We enjoyed a day off to spend with our families.
Tuesday: On Tuesday, we got our new jobs. The Blue Group finished Letterbook "Tt", and the whole class decorated the letter "Tt" with toothpicks, and colored Tehilla the Turtle in our dictionaries.
Wednesday: We took out our Mystery Box! Inside, we found Flute snacks, for the letter "Ff". Each girl got five flutes. We worked on our social skills in the kitchen corner, and our fine motor skills with table toys. The Blue Group started Letterbook "Ff". The Red Group worked on cutting and pasting sheets into their notebooks. At snack time, we used Flutes to make the letter "Ff."
Thursday: The Blue Group continued in Letterbook "Ff". The Red Group found pictures in magazines that start with the letter "Tt" and pasted them in their notebooks. We played with blocks and animals, and with table toys.
